Welcome to the English Language Smarts Wiki!

Here you will find information designed to assist teachers of English, both in English Language Arts (ELA) classes and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages classes (TESOL). Additionally, these resources may be used to increase literacy instruction in all classes. You demonstrate your English language smarts when you realize that students read, write, speak and listen across the curriculum.

ELA is commonly recognized as a core subject across the United States. Recently, it has been emphasized in the development of the Common Core State Standards. All teachers are literacy teachers and the many elements of English Language arts are emphasized in all classes.

TESOL has grown as a field and as an educational cornerstone in the recent past. More students come to the United States from other countries every year. Soon, Spanish will be the majority of languages spoken in the home. It is important to recognize the influence that multiculturalism has in the classroom and the role that each student plays in contributing to a well-rounded educational environment.
